Happy Friday the 13th!
Banette is one of my favorite Pokemon, and I randomly felt like drawing it. In my opinion, it's one of the scariest Pokemon, but it's also one of the saddest.
According to its Pokedex entries, it sticks pins into its body, was an abandoned doll that became possessed by hatred and seeks to kill the child that threw it away, and can't ever open its mouth or it will die. I kind of take it that that means it's always forced to smile, despite its crappy life.
I had the idea to base the picture off of the concept of having a fake smile to hide how you're really feeling, so it kind of turned out... darker and more emotive than my normal art. I added stitches, sewn patches, and pins because I felt like it went with Banette's already existing design, but made it more fitting for the picture. In case it's hard to tell, the hand is a puppeteer's, and it's zipping up Banette's smile.
This was supposed to be a quick drawing, but it ended up taking a pretty long time. I experimented with color and lighting a lot, because that's something I haven't really done much of in my digital art. I like how it turned out.
Done in SAI with 11 layers.

Daaaang this is awesome! The shades are all wonderful 
I kinda thought that once its mouth open, the spirit would just be drained of its energy greatly and search for another host. From what's already known, it's a Pokemon that holds a grudge. If it was as easy to dispose of as opening up the mouth, then it wouldn't really have been a grudge at all. I think of it stalker-style or a creeping haunt I guess
